Twitterless? For two days now. What does it mean for the 9th most prolific Twitterer?

There's a falsehood in this little ego chamber of Web 2.0, didja know that? It's the 'wellllll, all my friends are here' falsehood.
Here's why. The same people on Twitter, Facebook, Jaiku, Pownce, Flickr, and in my case, many virtual worlds and buddy lists. I know how to find you. Seriously.
Not all social networks are the same.. my XBOX buddy list has a different network than my Warcraft one. And few from those are actually on the aforementioned sites.
I made a promise that I wasn't going to use Twitter until Monday, so I could (sarcastically) 'see if my world crumbles'. Naturally, I knew the answer going in. No, of course it isn''t. Jaiku is better tech (and good grief mad props to Malach for interacting and running around at nearly 10 comments per minute through all the threads. You effing RULE, dude!). The 'simplicity' argument fails. Not because of this feature or that feature, but because it's just too coherent over here. I can send you one link to an entire debate or conversation. Bad Bloggers if you want to be like mySpace.
Cuz that's how organized Twitter is-- and most likely doomed to repeat the embarassment of Blogger. Jaiku, amongst others, are the Wordpresses and Typepads yet to come.
What's so sweet about Jaiku getting the score, is the fact that it wasn't created by some famous blogger type. This is how social media ALSO works. Look at all the multimedia-type microbloggish sites. What one gets the buzz? The one with the famous guy, Loic, behind it.
As techies, we fail. We're high schoolers. And you know who the diva prom queens are here.
And wow, I don't think I've seen a single Mahalo post. Howzabout that, eh?
Anyway, life goes on and my consumption of information and chatter and debate is SMARTER now. Consume 32489209483 feeds if you like, but ask yourself, are you as efficient as you could be? The Fear of Missing Out is a hard habit to break.
It's about having faith in ourselves.
We don't know everything.
It's when you have faith and do the unknown, that you leap miles and miles ahead of the herd. :)
I don't know that i agree in full about the simplicity argument. I think Twitter could be richer and still simple, or Jaiku could be simpler and still rich. Either way who cares, eh?
Re: network portability: one thing I thing would be cool about Jaiku is the aggregation capabilities. That said, none of my feeds seem to be loading; what up wit dat?
Anyway, good rant. Got Fb'd by me. Which, btw, I couldn't link to because Fb doesn't let me direct link to my posted items which totally sucks. It does pump em out as an RSS though. jeez.
I kinda like the 140char limit that Twitter has though... it makes you think a lot more before you compose your posts (or not). I think what you posted here is very valid, but it would probably be more at home as a blog post.
But then again if your point was to be anti-establishment, you proved it well using Jaiku as a Blog post with comments embedded in the post.
Pisses me off to be limited. It was a number designed to be compatible with SMS which is only one out of 3984230 ways to post there. And emergent behavior of users (and heh, it ain't just me) that post multiple posts, mean at some point, we're being inconvenienced because we work around problems.
Seriously, Twitter and Second Life are a match made in heaven. They start to get in their own way.
Man, I sure would have missed out on this comment thread had it it been on twitter. How many of you are my friends? Just 1. Thanks for the HUGE comment Eric.
The biggest complaint people tend to have about Jaiku is that there is no US shortcode for updating yet and that some feeds would not update RIGHT AWAY. Walking away for now. Will check back in a few hours :)
I've been here since March, and it's only been since the "big news" on Tuesday that I've noticed the feeds going missing, so I'm hoping that when things calm down a bit, they'll be running normally again.
Search around for the discussions about feed-feeding; a lot has to do with how frequently the various places allow Jaiku to look for them. Or just ask for Malach to answer this, and he may just mysteriously appear....
Of course, when the feeds DO start showing up, be prepared to look for the 'unsubscribe' option in each contact's feed lists. That will just stop the selected feed, not anything else from that contact. Unless, of couse, you want to see every last song that everyone's listening to on last.fm.

I could only read this macro blog in 140 at a time. My ADD is a Twitter fanatic.
